Student View: Christmas Charity Band Concert
When I first voiced my idea for a charity band concert to Mr Hutton, I was sceptical it would even go ahead, let alone attract a decently sized audience to make for a successful event. However, due to the immense support I received and the enthusiasm of students and teachers alike, Wednesday the 11th of December saw St Clement Danes’ inaugural Christmas Charity Band Concert.
The evening began with a tasteful blend of blues and trip hop delivered by Aleksija W-P on solo guitar, before Green Daydream, an aptly named Green Day tribute band of Teo K and Ruby V, gave the audience an electrifying performance. Following this, young upstarts Golden Horizon (Lucas B, Kian B and Sachin V) played a fantastic cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. To finish the first third, we were treated to a one night revival of Matteo and the Lemons, performing a tender, festive rendition of Fly Me to the Moon with Ruby V, Sam G and the eponymous Matteo L accompanying Chris S’s enchanting vocals.
Finally, the audience were transported through time by the Magical Mystery Four, who took everyone on a journey from the cavern to the rooftop. Paul (Indy B), John (Stanley V), Ringo (Ruby V), and George (Matteo L) delivered a whole host of hits such as I Wanna Hold Your Hand, All My Loving, One After 909 and Get Back to name a few, with George Martin (Sam G) stepping in as the 5th Beatle in the latter half. The concert ended with everyone singing along to Hey Jude with arms in the air, bringing a close to an unforgettable evening.
The Charities’ Prefects were on hand to serve refreshments, and Josh D-M did a stellar job managing the tech gremlins.
In total, £247 was raised, which will go towards the total for the chosen charities in this year’s Charities’ Week: Chilterns Neuro Centre, Pumpkin’s Wildlife Hospital, and Mission EmployAble.
