Charities Week

Â鶹Éçmadou's annual Charities Week was launched on Friday 16th December with the “Elf Auction” and the start of "Kidnap a Teacher". Friday also saw our annual Christmas Dinner, which saw our superb canteen staff starting at 5.30am in order to produce a feast for the whole school community. SLT served the students and other staff and a great time was had by all. Events carried on throughout Monday and Tuesday (including a hotly contested staff vs students dodgeball match) with today, the last day of term, being a non-uniform day, raising £1 per student.

Charities week is organised and led by our fantastic team of Charities Prefects, ably assisted by an army of Sixth Formers. Throughout the four days of fundraising, they worked tirelessly, selling sweets, drinks, uniform infringement passes and bleacher tickets to the Sixth Form Revue, an eagerly anticipated production put on earlier today. Students supported their endeavours by bringing their pocket money (and, no doubt, generous donations from parents) to school so they could join in the fun. Our prefects have chosen five charities to support this year and they are:

Dogs for Good which trains assistance dogs for people with disabilities

Maytree - a sanctuary for people in suicidal crisis

Kisima - a school for underprivileged children in Kenya

Parkinsons UK

The Hospice of St Francis – a palliative care centre in Berkhamsted

The Sixth Form Student Charities Committee are very grateful for all the support given to this event. Last year Charities Week raised an incredible amount, when students donated in excess of  £10000. This year, we are delighted to announce that we have raised a whopping £11480 to give to the charities. A new record - well done to everyone concerned.
