Maggini Quartet lead workshop for Year 12 Musicians
Year 12 Music students were privileged to attend a musical masterclass run by the prestigious Maggini Quartet when the quartet visited the school on Monday 4th June. The students found the masterclass fascinating and it was very exciting for the musicians to hear members of the quartet play the students' own compositions as part of the event!
The quartet has a link with St Clement Danes School with quartet violinist Julian Leaper being a parent of students, past and present. Formed in 1988, the Maggini Quartet is one of the finest British string quartets. Its acclaimed recordings have won international awards, and have twice been nominated for Grammy Awards. The Quartet’s most recent project has been recording the complete Mendelssohn quartet cycle.
Members of the Maggini Quartet have coached chamber music at the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music, and Trinity College of Music, London, and worked with the National Youth Chamber Orchestra of Great Britain. They have also given individual masterclasses in their own instruments at Birmingham Conservatoire, the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity College of Music, schools in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire and Redbridge Music Centre.
The school is delighted that the Maggini Quartet visited the school and that our students had the opportunity to attend such a fantastic masterclass.
