A great start to the year for Year 10 Franklin Scholars mentors !
The Franklin Scholars is an organisation established to help every pupil make a strong start in secondary school. The scholars are outstanding student leaders chosen to help younger students make a strong start in secondary school through peer tutoring and coaching. The school participates in the scheme under the guidance of Franklin Scholar Coordinator Miss Sacks.
On Tuesday 17th September 15 Year 10 students attended a training day run by Franklin Scholars. Miss Sacks was inspired by the new cohort of student mentors' replies when they were asked for their reasons for joining the programme, giving their reasons as ‘because I want to give back’, ‘because my brother was both a mentee and a mentor, and I saw how much it helped him’, and ‘because I want to use my life experience to help others’.
The mentors received training in active listening, using role play to improve their skills, and how to give advice using a growth mindset.
Well done Year 10 Franklin Scholar mentors for your enthusiasm and positive attitude - your mentees are fortunate to be working with you all!
