Drama News!
Performing Arts Teacher Mrs May reported on recent news from the drama department;
We have had a very busy few months in the Drama department. In November our Year 11 students performed their devised pieces – over two evenings the students performed a range of thought-provoking pieces challenging their audience to think about a range of issues including poverty, feminism, bullying and austerity. The end result was an accomplished evening of powerful theatre.
In December, A Level student were treated to modern interpretation of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ performed by the National Youth Theatre. Innovative set designs and strong performances led to an entertaining afternoon of theatre (and some inspiration for the Drama teachers!)
In January we were very excited to welcome Savannah Madden to our LAMDA team – she is working alongside Sarah Golding to provide students with high quality LAMDA teaching.
In January, we had the privilege of seeing Joe O’Gorman (Old Dane) make his professional debut in a new production of ‘Tom Brown’s School Days’ at the Union Theatre in Southwark. Joe played the part of Lofty in this moving production – he was outstanding; capturing the character’s vulnerability and humour and made his drama teachers very, very proud! (See pic below)
In January, Year 10 GCSE students enjoyed a performance of ‘DNA’ – it was great to see their set text bought to life by a touring company and the Q&A session allowed us to understand directorial decisions in more depth.
Rehearsals are under way for Whole School Production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ taking place in July . . .. more details to follow!
