Students experience University of Cambridge Interactive Day of Languages
At the start of the autumn term ten Year 9 students had the opportunity of spending a day at Cambridge University on an Interactive Day of Languages. They had university-style lessons in German, French and Spanish and then experienced two taster lessons in two further languages of their choice - Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese and Russian. Jocelyn Wyburd, Director of the Language Centre, talked to students from eight different schools about the importance of learning foreign languages for their future academic and personal progress, and also informed students about the courses available at the university. Four current students at the university were present at the event and talked about their own experiences as language students.
The visit gave the students a valuable insight into studying languages at Cambridge University. Head of Faculty Mrs Fern said it was a stimulating and enjoyable day which was very much enjoyed by the students.
