Remembrance of Senior Master and Acting Headmaster, Mr Don Palmer

The school recently received the sad news that former Senior Master and acting Headmaster, Don Palmer, had passed away. He joined the school in 1955 to teach maths and stayed until he retired. He played an important role in the transition of the school to Chorleywood and was acting Headmaster of the school that remained in London before the merger with Burlington School. Football was his passion both in and out of school and under his leadership as Master in charge of Football the school became one of the best soccer schools in the country.

He enjoyed a long, distinguished and committed career at St Clement Danes. But Old Danes have also shared some of their anecdotes of his football coaching. One remembers that he coached outside school and had a very young David Beckham in one of his teams. Another remembers that he organised lunchtime training sessions in school with Tommy Docherty. And I have also heard that he took the school football teams onto the pitch at Wembley during the 1966 World Cup Finals.

Thank you to Fiona Hirst, the school archivist, for putting together the article above in remembrance of Mr Palmer for his years of commitment and dedication to Â鶹Éçmadou.
