Year 9 Student Invited to Open Local Play Area
William, a student in Year 9, was invited to open a new play area at Maple Cross JMI School after he wrote a letter when he was in Year 6 asking HS2 for their spare earth from the local excavations so that hills could be made for the children to roll down. The letter initiated a whole school project which involved Align and an external artist/landscape designer over the last three years. The area consists of an orchard, meadow, willow tunnel and grassland and incorporates history of the Colne Valley. This has created a rich play and learning environment for the pupils at Maple Cross JMI School.
