Charities Week 2022
In these final few days of this term, our annual fundraising for charity has begun, organised and led by our Charities Prefects and ably assisted by an army of Sixth Formers. This year will see a return to whole-school fundraising events, after two years of activities that had to be adapted to comply with Covid safety procedures. The fundraising will begin on Friday 16th December with a series of events at lunch time, including “Sponge a teacher”, “Elf Auction”, and a tuck shop – to name but a few.
Events will carry on into the next week on Monday and Tuesday, with the final day of term being a non-uniform day for which each student should bring in a £1.00 donation.
Our prefects have chosen three local charities to support through these fundraising events. They are:
Mission EmployAble is a charity that St Clement Danes have proudly supported in previous fundraising events and continue to raise money for this year. The charity trains young adults with learning disabilities to make the most of their individual talents and help them find paid employment. The charity has worked alongside Chorleywood Cricket Club to construct the new cricket pavilion, which will act as a training facility for Mission EmployAble’s interns.
Part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, Rickmansworth Foodbank is working to combat poverty and hunger across the local area. They provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to the charity in crisis. St Clement Danes are delighted to support such a fantastic cause at a time when food costs are rising.
The final charity chosen this year is Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. Based in Amersham, and working in partnership with the NHS, this charity aims to provide specialist nurses for seriously ill children living with complex, lifelong conditions. This includes trying to find innovative ways to ensure these children, and their families, have the care and support they need, and we are proud to be donating to such a worthy cause.
The Sixth Form Student Charities Committee has asked to thank you in advance for any support you are able to give, especially given the current cost of living crisis. We donated over £9,000 shared between our chosen charities in 2021 and hope to achieve similar heights this year.
