Gym and Dance Display

Congratulations to nearly two hundred students who took part in the annual Gym and Dance Display which was held in the Barbirolli Hall on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th February 2023. The students performed twenty pieces including Vaulting, Trampette work, Floor gymnastics, team gymnastics, Contemporary dance, Street dance, Lyrical and Modern dance.

The Elite Dance girls' team showcased a snippet of the routine that they will perform at the Hertfordshire Schools' Gala, which will be held at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 30th April. The team have been selected for the second time to close the show from a shortlist of many other local schools.

PE teacher and Gym and Dance Display Organiser Miss Tucker commented:

"With this being our first live performance since 2020, the students were extremely excited for the return of our much anticipated show. I am proud that we are finally able to share with you this special performance following the turbulence that the past few years have presented. The students have shown excellent commitment and dedication, working hard at home, during lunch times and after school to produce and rehearse a variety of pieces. It is fantastic to see such a range of talent and for all of them to perform with such confidence. The show has created opportunities for Year 7 through to Year 13 students to work collaboratively which has created strong artistic working relationships through their mutual passion for Gym and Dance.

A special mention must go to Yolanda Brett, Kaitlyn McHale, Layla Ozcan, Lauren Cousens, Cora Pearce and Ella Hartal who have all dedicated a lot of time to choreograph and develop some of the dance and gymnastic pieces that were showcased. Most of these students have grown up with the gym and dance show as a tradition throughout their school careers and are fantastic role models to our younger gymnasts and dancers. I'm proud that they now feel confident enough to choreograph and lead the next generation of performers at SCD. This show would not have been possible without their dedication and support.

A massive thank you must go to Mr Taylor, Adam Cook, Issac Daborn Mann, Joshua Daborn Mann and Thomas Kirby. They have worked tirelessly behind the scenes setting up sound and lighting. Their efforts have helped to bring this performance alive."

Last, but not least, well done to all the performers and to Miss Tucker and fellow staff for all their hard work in creating such a wonderful spectacle!
