The SCD Great Business Bake Off Winners Announced
Yesterday saw the judging of SCD's Great Business Bake Off 2016. Dr Valentine and Mr Butler, assisted by Mrs Hawkins and Mr Turner, scrutinised the entries for a range of attributes in order to score the entries out of 30. Entrants were tasked with baking a cake or biscuits which had to have a business link - no matter how tenuous. The cakes ranged from representing the Royal Exchange to reproducing Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump in icing. The amazing variety of entries can be seen in the photographs below.
The winners were Adnan Abdulkader and Teagan James who had a joint submission of the "Office blocks in the city of London". The judges thought the idea, presentation and taste were all superb, saying it had "an excellent focus on Business in the capital."
Runner-up was Jessica Moorhouse who submitted a cake focusing on money in business, and featuring a shirt and tie, briefcase and cash. The judges thought the presentation was fantastic; Mr Butler appreciated the taste saying that it was "a well laid out and relevant cake."
Highly Commended was William Hems' "Royal Exchange" and Jasmine Wood's "You're Fired!" cake with jelly bean fountain. In the staff competition Mrs Davis' "Fat Cat Shower" just pipped Mrs Kirby's Bake off tent to the prize - despite Mrs Kirby trying to bribe the judges with a real £20! Overall, it was a very eclectic and strong set of submissions: congratulations to all.
Many entrants have donated their cakes to the Macmillan Cake Sale which is taking place today.
