Celebrating European Day of Languages
On 26th September, students and staff at St Clement Danes came together to celebrate the European Day of Languages, engaging in a variety of activities. The event was a vibrant celebration, encouraging the school community to explore and appreciate the value of different languages and cultures.
One of the day’s highlights was a cross-curricular challenge that saw students explore languages in creative and innovative ways. Quizzes tested their knowledge of European languages, sparking friendly competition and fostering a deeper interest in linguistic diversity. Students also submitted some superb entries in the European Day of Languages Poster competition illustrating the theme of Languages for Peace and these have been sent off to the European Centre for Modern Languages.
Year 7 students added a sweet touch to the day by baking cakes, which they generously donated to visitors at the MFL faculty on Open Day. In exchange for small charitable donations, guests were treated to the students' culinary creations. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and excitement, and the cakes were a hit. While it was difficult to choose a winner, prizes were eventually awarded to Nina R for her Hungarian cake and biscuits, Ibrahim H for his round cake with decorations, Hannah K-A for her German Lebkuchen biscuits and Annabella W for her M&M flag Duolingo cakes.
The European Day of Languages at St Clement Danes showcased the school community’s enthusiasm for promoting cultural understanding.
