Commemoration 2024

On 22nd November, the school marked its founding anniversary with a beautiful Commemoration Day service at St. Clement Danes Church in Holborn. This year honoured the 1,138th anniversary since King Alfred the Great’s grant of land to the Danes in 886, where the first church, now known as St. Clement Danes, was later established. The school also celebrated its 48th year in Chorleywood.

The service welcomed students from Years 7, 11, and 13, as well as esteemed guests, Old Danes, Trustees, Staff, and Governors. It began with the Head Boy, Jai B, carrying the Processional Cross, accompanied by Ben S and Chloe P with the Acolyte Torches. Reverend Mark Perry, Resident Chaplain of St. Clement Danes Church, extended a warm greeting to all present.

Musical performances from the Year 7 Choir, Adult Choir, Chamber Choir, and Orchestra, along with a vocal duet by our Year 8 students, Maya S and Anaya M, were a highlight of the day. Head Girl, Yona R, and Headteacher, Mr. Sutherland, shared meaningful reflections, and Reverend Mark Perry concluded with an inspiring address. The school's song, “The Anchor is Our Emblem,” was sung by the entire congregation as well as soloist performances by our Year 7 students, Catherine F and Oliver H.

It was a memorable morning, live-streamed for students who remained at school. Sincere thanks to all staff involved, especially Mr Butterfield, Mrs Bird, Ms Smart, Mrs Hobbs, Mrs Marubayashi, Miss Ryan, Ms O’ Connor, Ms Cremins and Mrs Marheineke, for their dedication to organising this very special event.
